Sultan of Brunei Car Collection

Most car collections have a theme, but the Sultan of Brunei’s car wardrobe seems to be “as many cars as we can get.” Considering he’s got plenty of money to buy cars, it’s not surprising that he was able to create a collection with thousands of them. And not just any car either.

If you’re a car lover and even a collector, you know about the legend that is the Sultan of Brunei’s car collection. As he’s ranked as one of the wealthiest people in the world, so did Forbes say, his billions allowed him to collect some of the most expensive and rarest cars.

How Many Cars Does the Sultan of Brunei Have?

The shortest answer is – too many to count!

Who has the largest car collection, probably in the entire world? It’s going to be the Sultan of Brunei, with a massive collection of thousands of cars. Now, that makes him the biggest private car collector in the world. Previously, his car collection was estimated to go about $5 billion. Not surprising, however, since his estimated net worth is around $20 billion.

Still, thousands of cars comprise some of the auto industry’s biggest names, from Bugatti to Ferrari, McLaren, Bentley, BMW, Rolls-Royce, the Sultan of Brunei seems to have it all. At least in terms of the most beautiful, fastest, and most expensive cars in the world.

But here’s the thing – nobody knows how many cars there are exactly! Some say 2,000 cars after having put some of the cars in the collection on sale, although that quote can be from years ago. Others say that it’s around 7,000 now, but it could surely be thousands, whatever the exact number is. And it’s safe to say that while the legend of the Sultan’s car collection grew, so did the number!

Did we say thousands? Yes, absolutely. Listing every car that the Sultan of Brunei owns needs an entire book. So, we’re only going to list some of the hidden gems and most impressive cars from the Sultan’s garage, or dare we say a car warehouse?

Ferrari F40 LM

Sultan of Brunei Car Collection

It’s one of the most exciting cars ever built, and you bet the Sultan of Brunei added that to his massive car collection. But he didn’t just get one of probably the most famous F40 race cars of all time. The Sultan ordered around nine right-hand versions of the Ferrari F40 LMs.

This one is a very-expensive go-kart in the Sultan’s collection.

McLaren F1 LM (X3)

Sultan of Brunei Car Collection

McLaren only produced five of the F1 LM editions, and it seemed that one of five isn’t enough for the Sultan of Brunei. He made sure to get three of them. So basically, he owns more than half of the available LM models to this day?

One of his McLaren F1 LM’s is painted papaya orange, but the other two are painted black even though websites state that all F1 LMs are in papaya orange colors!

Rolls Royce Phantom II Continental

Sultan of Brunei Car Collection

Meet the unique and truly glorious car, at least one of the Sultan’s thousands of cars.

This one is a Guinness World Record holder, considered as the most expensive car ever sold in an auction. It was once owned by royalty from Rajkot city, but the Sultan of Brunei nabbed it for $14 million and is now the proud owner of the most expensive Rolls Royce ever produced.

Ferrari FX

Sultan of Brunei Car Collection

Only between seven and nine Ferrari FX was produced, and the Sultan of Brunei ordered six. Talk about greed! But the thing is, the Ferrari FX was really designed by Italian designer Pininfarina for his Majesty himself, so it makes sense that he owns a couple of them, probably in all his favorite colors!

Ferrari Testarossa F90 Speciale

Sultan of Brunei Car Collection

It’s already in the name, so you know that this car is a special one. It’s another Pininfarina-designed Ferrari, another commission by the Sultan of Brunei. But if you really get into the technicalities, his brother came to Pininfarina to order six of these for their collection.

It was a super-secret project that Ferrari didn’t even know about until 18 years later, and Ferrari admitted that there were six built in the 1990s. According to them, the Testarossa F90 Speciale was bolder than anything Ferrari had ever dared to build.

Custom Rolls Royce Silver Spur Limousine

Sultan of Brunei Car Collection

Limousines are already luxury cars but have it with a 24-carat gold plating, and you bet it’s going to be one of the jaw-droppingly expensive (and outrageous) cars for many years to come. At over $14 million, this golden stretch limousine is at the center of the Sultan’s car collection.

This one doesn’t see much of the outside, but the Sultan of Brunei’s daughter did use the car during her wedding day, the perfect occasion to splurge.

24-Carat Gold Plated Mercedes-Benz

Sultan of Brunei Car Collection

It’s not surprising that the Sultan has more than one luxury car plated with 24-carat gold at this point. But not much is known about his golden Mercedes-Benz, only that it exists!

Apparently, owning a luxurious Mercedes-Benz is not enough for the royalty. It has to be dripping in gold too!

Aston Martin V8 Vantage Special Series II

Sultan of Brunei Car Collection

You can only find three of this Aston Martin in the world, and they are probably lined side by side in the Sultan of Brunei’s car warehouse. After all, they were specially made for the Sultan himself.

It’s a custom-built series for the Brunei royalty, although there could have been a Series III after this one. However, the Sultan and his brother later pulled out of the deal while the project was underway.

Koenigsegg CCXR

Sultan of Brunei Car Collection

The Koenigsegg CCXR is the first-ever green supercar. So, if it’s something worth collecting, you bet the Sultan of Brunei will get one for his collection, even if it would cost him $1.3 million.

But besides being an environmentally friendly car, the CCXR is also twin-supercharged, fast, and powerful enough for the Sultan’s tastes in cars.

Ferrari F50 Bolide

Sultan of Brunei Car Collection

There are Ferrari F50 models all over the world, but if you’re the Sultan of Brunei with millions of dollars to spare, a “mere” F50 won’t cut it. So, you commission a unique variant of one of the last raw supercars. And since Ferrari is no stranger to creating bespoke cars for their most loyal customers, the Bolide was born.

Very few photos of the Ferrari F50 Bolide exist, and some believe that it’s only a legend. So, unless the Sultan of Brunei shares a newer and clearer photo of the bespoke car, no one’s getting a fascinating glimpse of this car.

Ferrari Mythos

Sultan of Brunei Car Collection

Another rare Ferrari car model owned by the Sultan of Brunei, a 1989 concept car that never made it to the public. It’s not very often for Ferrari to produce concept cars, let alone open them for people to see during a public motor show. Hence, the Mythos is truly one of a kind (or two).

You can find the other original concept car at Pininfarina style center, although owned by a Japanese collector Shiro Kosaka. But it’s no secret that the Brunei royalty commissioned two of these, one blue and one red, for his own collection, even if the Mythos was never intended for selling.

Although it’s not a fast car, Ferrari Mythos is a classic!

Dauer 962 Le Mans

Sultan of Brunei Car Collection

If you haven’t noticed it by now, the Sultan of Brunei is all about exclusivity, and he does have an eye for great, top-quality cars. The Dauer 962 Le Mans, a sports car mainly based on the Porsche 962, is one of the rare vehicles in his collection.

Notably, the Sultan of Brunei owns six of the 13 cars ever made.

Porsche 959

Sultan of Brunei Car Collection

A Porsche is already a dream come true, but the Sultan of Brunei is famous for his lavish car collection. So, he doesn’t get one but 12 Porsche 959 cars. But that doesn’t seem enough, because when he went into the dealership (or was it the dealership that went to him?), he looked for gold-plated versions! Whether he saw a gold-plated Porsche 959 or asked Porsche to make one exclusively for him is unsure, but what’s certain is there are a dozen of this golden monstrosity somewhere in the Sultan’s car warehouse.

The Sultan of Brunei’s love of cars is so well-known, not only for car lovers and collectors like him but also to some luxury car makers. In fact, Mercedes have created one-of-a-kind cars to add to his collection. It means that some of the Sultan of Brunei’s cars are only exclusive and can only be seen in probably his car warehouse (you can’t call it a garage at this point) and can never be seen anywhere else on Earth!

Besides his most unique and rarest cars mentioned, the Sultan of Brunei’s car collection also includes:

  • 600+ Rolls Royce,
  • 570+ Mercedes-Benz,
  • 450+ Ferrari’s,
  • 380+ Bentley’s,
  • 200+ BMWs,
  • 170+ Jaguars,
  • 160+ Porsches,
  • 150+ Koenigsegg sports cars,
  • and a slew of Bugattis, Aston Martins, Lamborghinis, McLarens, Chryslers

No one’s notoriously known as an avid collector and a car enthusiast to the extreme other than the Sultan of Brunei.
